Some student residents of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) on Sunday night, were invaded and robbed by hoodlums around Iwofe area of Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State while some female students were raped.
Reports on Vanguard is that one of the attacked victim, Bright John narrated that they were asleep when the robbers arrived at their lodge with weapons and robbed occupants of each room.
John disclosed to reporters that frequent attacks on students’ apartment is being to affect their studies. He said that the robbers target their laptops and mobile phones each time they invade their lodge.
John also charged the police to come to their aid as they lack adequate security.
“We are being robbed and our girls raped by criminals every time. We are living in fear because these boys come here every time to attack us.
They rob us every time at gunpoint and the whole incident affects our studies. So we are calling on the police to be proactive in providing security for us.
They also raped some female students.” John said
One of the Landlords who also confirmed the tragic occurrence, Mr Kinikanwo Amadi accused the security operatives of not doing enough to safeguard the lives of the students.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni has condemned the incident and promised to ensure proper investigation concerning the allegations of ineffectiveness.
Nnamdi said
“If we find out that any police personnel refuses to discharge his/her responsibility, such person will be made to face severe punishment”.
