“True Detective” Season 3, Starring Mahershala Ali, Officially Announced

HBO has green lit its hit drama series “True Detective” for a third season. As the cable channel confirmed last month, Mahershala Ali will star. The new season will be set in the Ozarks and focus on a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas named Wayne Hays (played by Ali), Entertainment Weekly reports. The show will also shift across different narrative timelines. Creator and original showrunner Nic Pizzolatto will helm the writing for all episodes. He will also direct along with Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room). The first season of “True Detective” starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, while the second season starred Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughan.
Earlier this year, Ali won Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Moonlight. He also starred opposite Danny Glover in JAY-Z’s 4:44 video “Adnis.” Read “Director Barry Jenkins on the Music That Made Moonlight.”
