Schoolgirl, 15, collapses and dies after boss "forces her to do 100 squats" as punishment for being late to work
15-year-old girl, who lied about her age in
order to work, died days after her boss forced her to do 100 squats as punishment for being late to work.
The schoolgirl, whose surname is Wu, quit her studies and faked her age to get a job because she needed to help pay off her dad's medical bills but died from respiratory failure in August after being made to do deep squats at a real estate firm.
Wu reportedly borrowed her older friend's ID to apply for jobs and was employed by real estate firm, Qfang in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China. The employers apparently did not double check her ID and they believed she was over 18.
The dead girl's mother said Wu arrived late for work on one day in late July and was asked to do 100 squats as punishment.
She said: "She was asked to do 100 but couldn’t even reach halfway. But her manager forced her to continue anyway."
Afterwards, Wu complained to her parents of discomfort and said she was sometimes unable to move her legs. She was asked by her parents to return to the family home in Hunan province where they took her to hospital. Unfortunately, her condition rapidly deteriorated and she suddenly began experiencing vomiting and paralysis in her limbs. She eventually died on August 7, of what doctors said was respiratory failure. Wu's mum claims her daughter’s death is as a result of the 100-squat punishment she received.
A manager at the firm admitted the girl was forced to do deep squats but said the exercise was "not a punishment"
