Federal police records show that more than one third of 358 foreign students arrested since 2015 were Nigerians.
According to Bukit Aman, Nigerians are being hauled up over drug crimes nationwide-in malaysia than other foreign students.
Director of Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff when contacted disclosed that 122 Nigerians were arrested from January 2015 until May this year.
“We arrested 33 in 2015 but last year, that number almost doubled to 63 and it looks like the number will increase again this year”
He said 26 Nigerians had already been arrested from January to May this year.
“These foreigners think that they can come in under the pretense of studying and make easy money distributing drugs.
They are not just ruining their lives but also the lives of Malaysians”
He added that his department was committed to taking down drug syndicates in the country by using all available laws against perpetrators of the illicit act.
He disclosed that if they could not convict perpetrators of the act for drug trafficking, they would use the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) act to take them down.
